How it Works

What to Expect

Your first visit will be a Comprehensive Evaluation with a detailed review of your health history and symptoms.  A functional assessment will also be performed.  Photos will need to be uploaded to your Patient Portal prior to the appointment.  The evaluation will be performed via a tele-health platform.  You can expect a 90-minute appointment for the first visit.  An explanation of your symptoms will be discussed.  You should plan on a Comprehensive Evaluation Fee of $225 for this visit which will be collected at the time of service.

Generally, you should expect 12-18 therapy sessions which may last up to 45 minutes each session, every 2 weeks for 6- 8 months.  The last third of the sessions will be spread out every 3 weeks.  You will be expected to do physical therapy types of exercises for a few minutes, 2 times every day during treatment to achieve excellent results.

Services Offered

Myofunctional Therapy:  The most common therapy provided, intended for ages 6 years and older (some mature 5 year olds as well).  Proper tongue posture at rest, establishing nasal breathing and correct chewing and swallowing patterns are addressed.

Mini-Myo:  This program is for ages 4-5 (possibly up to age 6) who are not ready for a structured therapy program.  We meet for 3 sessions spread over 3-4 month period. The focus is establishing tongue posture and guiding the next steps to other providers if needed.  Myofunctional activities will be given.

Payment

Payments is due at time of service and will be invoiced and charged to debit/credit card on file at the end of each session.

Insurance: I do not accept medical or dental insurance, however, I do accept HSA or FSA card payments.  It is recommended to reach out to your card issuer to clarify coverage from those accounts.

Additional cost: A supply kit will be mailed for use during Myofunctional Therapy.  The kit is included in the therapy fee, however, if it needs to be replaced due to loss there is a $45 restocking fee.

Goals: There are four goals of Myofunctional Therapy:

  • Nasal breathing day & night
  • Tongue on the roof of mouth day & night
  • Lips closed together day & night
  • Proper swallowing

Other Providers: Often times myofunctional therapy is a team approach to your underlying challenges.  I will often work with your other health care providers to accomplish your goals.
